06/17: "Week of the Sea" 2017: registration open

The tenth session of the Tunisian Biology and Marine Environment Course will take place from 12 to 19 July 2017 in Gabes. Entries are open until July 1st

The Week of the Sea is an international biology and marine environment internship organized in Tunisia collaboration between the WWF North Africa, the Ecosystems and Aquatic Resources Research Unit of the National Agronomic Institute of Tunisia (ERA / INAT), The Coastal Protection and Management Agency (APAL) and the Study and Training Center (OKIANOS) in Tabarka, with the active participation of the Bizerte Superior Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (ISPA) , The Specially Protected Areas Regional Activity Center (SPA/RAC), the National Institute of Marine Science and Technology (INSTM), the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Monastir (ISBM) and the NGO Association des Amis des Oiseaux (AAO).

This internship brings together undergraduate science students (Fisheries, Biology, Environment) coming from the Mediterranean region, for a practical training in prospecting, sampling and interpretation on the marine and coastal ecosystems with a habitats and biodiversity protection approach.

The internship is organized in a closed camp with a permanent supervision provided by university teachers and researchers specialized in the following themes:

  • Sea surveys and sampling
  • Laboratory work and analysis
  • Sorting, identification and taxonomy
  • Data processing and mapping
  • Thematic Day (Oasis ecosystems, Ecotourism ...)
  • Scientific conferences and animations (MPA, Fisheries, Ornithology, ICZM, Co-management, Climate change)

Practical information:

  • Period of the internship: from 12 to 19 July 2017
  • Internship location: Gabès
  • Selection of candidates will be based on the curriculum and motivation
  • The selected students will be fully supported during their stay in Tunisia
  • Individual and travel insurance are not supported by the organisers as well as the international transport costs
