05/16: Publication of the proceedings of the symposium on marine and coastal birds in the Mediterranean

Proceedings of the symposium

Held in Tunisia from 20 to 22  February 2015, the symposium brought together more than fifty Mediterranean participants,  including researchers, students and representatives of civil society, around the four following themes:

  • Bird species of particular Mediterranean importance;
  • National and regional statements ;
  • Threats and survey techniques ;
  • Conservation networks.

The event was organized by RAC/SPA in partnership with the association les Amis des Oiseaux (AAO), BirdLife Tunisia, Medmaravis, Tour du Valat and the French Coastal Agency (Conservatoire du Littoral).

The main objective of the symposium was to review the current knowledge of the 25 bird taxa listed in Annex II to the SPA/BD Protocol and to discuss the most recent results of research and conservation works on these species. Particular interest was paid to conservation issues, the current projects implemented in the Mediterranean and innovative proposals to limit the threats impacting these species' populations.

The proceedings of the symposium are now available online :
